Using FTP Attachments® Advance Migrator

Advance Migrator tool is an automated tool used to migrate files from Salesforce storage server to the personal storage server. It is an add-on tool of the FTP Attachments application similar to classic Migrator tool with enhanced feature of automated migration. 

Using this tool, files can be continuously migrated from Notes and Attachments to personal storage server. The record of migrated file can be found in Salesforce’s FTP Attachments object. 

Note: Advance Migrator tool follows the standard Salesforce size limits of attachments and storage capacity. 


  • Advance Migrator will work only for the files uploaded using Notes and Attachments of Salesforce Classic. 

  • For activating the Advance Migrator tool, user needs to follow below steps in Salesforce classic and later after clicking on start in the FTP Attachments Advance Migrator tool it will automatically transfer the Salesforce attachment to FTP related list, and after clicking on Stop it will stop the automatic migration of Salesforce attachments to the FTP Attachments related list: 

  • Advance Migrator tool will work only for the Salesforce attachment which user will attach after clicking on start of the Advance Migrator tool. It will not transfer the existing Salesforce attachment. 

  1. Go to Setup, click on create Tab. 

2. Create Visual force tab. 

3. Open the migrator settings Tab. 

         Step 1.  Activate the Attachment and FTPMigrator Queue Trigger.

         Step 2.  Click on Create Push Topic Record.

         Step 3.  Configure Settings as per your requirement.

  • Object for which attachment should migrate: Select the object on which you want to apply continuous automated migration from Notes and Attachments to your own storage server through FTP Attachments. 
  • File Extension allowed/denied :  Enter the file extensions you want to allow or deny while migrating any file.
  • Allowed file name with patterns: This feature will facilitate user to select the file name with specific pattern which is supposed to be migrated automatically using Advance Migrator tool.
  • Eg. If User enters the word “Test” in the field “File name with Patterns” then the files attached through Notes and Attachments, starting with file name “Test” will only get migrated automatically. 
  • Delete original attachment after migration: Check this box if you want to delete original attachment from Notes and Attachments.
  • Is duplicate file name allowed: Check this box if you want to allow files to be migrated with duplicate file name

   Step 4. Save these settings

4. Click on Advance Migrator under Tools section of FTP Attachments portal. 

    a. Select the Number of Threads-Number of threads will be the count of attachments to be processed at a time. 

    b. Select the server profile where you want your Salesforce attachments to be saved. 

    c. Click on start button to activate the automated migration process. After clicking on start, the automatic migration of the Salesforce attachments will     get started. 

    d. Click on stop if you do not want to continue the automatic migration of your Salesforce attachments. 

Note: Click on start, only when you have

  • finished the required setting,
  •  created Visualforce tab and 
  • created PushTopic Record in the Salesforce classic. 

Number of Threads :  Enter the number of threads you want to process in queue. It will be the number of files being processed in the queue at a time while migrating the files.

 #Note: Number of threads should be between 1-10.

Server Profiles:  It is the profile name of storage server you have configured in storage server settings of the application. Select the storage profile name where you want to migrate the files from Salesforce storage server.

 5. Go to your Salesforce instance and attach any file from Notes and Attachments i.e. on Salesforce Storage server.

6. Once you attach and upload any file on Salesforce storage server, you will be able to see status of processing record on Advance Migrator Tool Page as shown in following figure.

You will be able to see the migrated file and its details in Attachments log of Advance Migrator tool.

Successfully migrated files can be seen under FTP Attachments related list.

Log of all the files processed in queue will be saved under FTP Migrator Queue object. You can check status of all processed files under any object despite of its status being failed or successfully migrated.
